The Company:

The Midland Automobile Club (MAC) was established in 1901 and has been running Motor Sport events since then in many guises.  The MAC currently has 1,700 members. Since 1905, one of the main areas of activity has been running the Shelsley Walsh hill climb that is nestled in the rolling hills of Worcestershire.


As we approach our 120th anniversary of running the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, we are looking to expand our office team which will give the current team time to develop new areas of business that will help support both the club and its famous venue.


When we are successful in our objectives this role could expand to full-time


Role Purpose:   

  • Under the direction of the Competitions Manager, the Competition Assistant will be responsible for providing support to the competition activities of the MAC.

  • The postholder will also provide support to the Operations Manager and other team members as required.

  • This is a crucial role within the MAC, requiring a person who is comfortable working in a busy environment. You must have good organisation and communication skills to deliver against multiple priorities. 

  • A person who will contribute dynamically to the development of the MAC and Shelsley Walsh.

  • Able to work collectively and collaboratively as a member of MAC team to ensure that functional responsibilities are delivered and prioritised specifically in support of the strategic objectives of the MAC.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Learn how motorsport is organised in the UK

  • Work with the Motorsport UK team

  • Work with the MAC office team and the MAC directors

  • Learn and fully understand the duties of a Competition Secretary and be prepared to fulfil this role at MAC Events

  • Assist with

  • Competition enquiries and entries

  • MAC and External Championships

  • Shelsley Specials

 

Other Duties:

  • Support the remainder of the MAC team when required at any exhibitions or events over and above the normal day-to-day running of the MAC.

  • Any other duties that fall within the scope and spirit of the post.

 

Competencies and Experience:

  • Team player with a positive and passionate personality.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from MAC members, the board, spectators and other employees and volunteers of the MAC.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams and web navigation.

  • Self-motivator, ability to work independently, multi-tasker, detail oriented.

  • Ability to maintain and foster positive interactions with co-workers, MAC members, spectators, suppliers and contractors.

  • Financially aware.

  • The drive and ambition to achieve goals/objectives and the discipline, organisation and perseverance to deliver outstanding customer service both internally and externally.

  • Knowledge of Motorsport UK permitted events and experience of competition would be advantageous but not necessary

 

Other details

  • Permanent Position

  • 20hrs per week

  • Hours of work : TBD

  • Salary dependent on experience

 

NB. The nature of the post will require a commitment to the MAC outside of normal working hours (e.g. weekends, evenings, Bank Holidays, etc.). Time-in-lieu will be granted for such hours worked.


A full driving licence to ensure the most efficient contact with external bodies and support the MAC’s external events.
